For many people around the world, February 14th is a day earmarked to celebrate those you love – whether it be romantic love or platonic. People celebrate by sending cards, flowers, candy, and remind those closest to them they are loved and seen. For a children’s home in Mazatlan, Mexico, it also marks a day to celebrate a type of love – the kind that says, “You are valuable. You are magnificent. You are seen. Your needs will be met” to 14 children and teens with special needs.
February 14, 2022 marked the 18th anniversary for a Back2Back-operated children’s home! It has long held a special place in many hearts around the world as they’ve offered holistic, intentional care to a specific vulnerable population. Together, staff and the children who call it home celebrated their 18th anniversary with tacos, raffles, prizes, and a soccer match on a new field.
“What was once just an empty field was transformed into a soccer field,” shared Ramon Balderrama, Back2Back staff. “It was a blessing to have a space for the children to run, play, and just enjoy the day.” Together, they celebrated what has been accomplished – cycles broken, statistics defied, physical and emotional healing – and all that is yet to be seen.
