Cecelia just turned 21 years old. We celebrated with cake, gifts and a small party. As we sang “Happy Birthday,” her eyes began to water. Seeing small tears stream down her face, you couldn’t help but wonder how long it had been since she had celebrated her birthday.
“This means so much to me, to celebrate with my family,” she says. Cecelia considers the other children at her children’s home her brothers and sisters.
When you grow up with parents who honor your birthday each year, it’s hard to fathom what it’s like to not have that. Cecelia didn’t, but now she does.
