Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world. The official language is English, though there are over 500 languages spoken across the country. The average lifespan in Nigeria is 55 years and about 50% of the population lives in severe poverty. The poverty level greatly affects education. Many children do not have access to quality education. Nigerians live with a great sense of community and a strong desire to care for one another.
Back2Back began working in Nigeria in 2006 with the goal of coming alongside the community to care for the orphaned and vulnerable children and families living there. Back2Back owns and operates a community education center which provides tutoring and other programming for children in the local village. Back2Back also partners with area children’s homes and impoverished communities to provide deeper, more holistic care for children. Additionally, Back2Back’s Hope Education Program provides higher education, family-style living, vocational training, and life-skills training for teens.
