When Alberto arrived at Salvation Army Children’s Home in Mazatlan, Mexico, he was years behind in his education. He had been home-schooled at a government-run children’s home and had limited interaction with other children his age.
Two years ago, Mariya was shy, quiet and somewhat withdrawn. At that time, often playing by herself, she is spotted sitting alone in the corner. Mariya finds it difficult to form attachments to others.
This summer, I spent three weeks serving alongside the Back2Back staff team in Monterrey, Mexico. One morning, as I walked around the campus praying, God gave me a vision.
What’s the secret? What’s the key to his success? I wish I could say that it his great tutor or all the extra hours of academic work we’ve put in together. But, neither of those are true. Despite my college degree, it’s not the hours of academic prep we’ve logged, it’s the investment in his heart.
