Position summary: Responsible for growing resources to advance the mission and vision of Back2Back Ministries. This role involves identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors to achieve fundraising goals. The Development Officer plays a pivotal role in deepening donor engagement and creating long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.
Primary responsibilities:
- Donor Portfolio Management:
- Manage a portfolio of 100-150 donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
- Develop tailored strategies for donor engagement based on giving history, interests, and potential.
- Regularly update donor records in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to reflect all interactions and ensure accurate reporting.
- Cultivation and Solicitation:
- Build meaningful relationships with donors through personalized outreach, including face-to-face meetings, phone calls, written correspondence, and virtual connections. Proactively visit donors where they are, including travel to different cities or states, to strengthen relationships and deepen engagement.
- Identify opportunities to align donors’ interests with organizational funding priorities, facilitating both restricted and unrestricted gifts.
- Create compelling proposals and presentations that articulate the impact of donor contributions.
- Ensure timely and effective solicitation of gifts, including planned giving and multi-year commitments.
- Ensure notes of impact are communicated to constituents through their method of preference. (IE: In-person, phone, text, email, written note.)
- Stewardship:
- Develop and execute personalized stewardship plans to retain and upgrade donors.
- Provide regular updates to donors on the impact of their contributions through reports, stories, and events.
- Ensure appropriate recognition of donor contributions in alignment with organizational policies and preferences.
- Strategic Planning:
- Participate in organizational planning meetings to align fundraising strategies with overall objectives.
- Collaborate with program, marketing, and finance teams to develop funding opportunities and associated materials.
- Contribute to the organization’s annual fundraising strategy by setting and achieving personal and team goals.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Represent the organization at events, including speaking engagements, networking opportunities, and donor trips. Facilitate opportunities for potential and current donors to visit ministry sites through scout trips, mission trips, and special events to deepen their engagement and connection to the mission.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop campaigns and initiatives that engage new donors and strengthen existing relationships.
Required education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent life experience required.
- Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in fundraising, sales, or a related field, with demonstrated success in securing gifts of $25,000 or more.
- Proven ability to manage a donor pipeline and meet or exceed fundraising goals.
- Experience with donor management systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge NXT).

- Operate with basic competency in Microsoft Office and Google Applications and CRM.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and donor management software.
- Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences, being sensitive to those of other cultures, personalities, functions, and skills.

- Ability to work in an office environment as well as remotely as needed.
Travel Requirements:
- Willingness to travel as needed, including occasional evening and weekend engagements. It may range from 10% to 25% of working days per month on average, depending on the location of the development officer, their donor portfolio, and mission trip travel.
Performance Metrics:
- Total Dollars Raised – Ensuring steady, sustainable growth.
- Retention Rates – Maintaining donor relationships and renewal rates for # and $.
- Helping donors grow in their engagement over time within the assigned portfolio.
- Number of Asks Made – Tracking proactive fundraising activity.
- Number of New Donors Who Give – Measuring outreach and expansion of the donor base.
