For years, denominations across the Dominican Republic have served faithfully but separately, held back by divisions that have weakened their collective impact. This November brought a stirring to the hearts of local leaders; pastors and ministries came together to vision cast what could happen if the body of Christ moved as one instead of individually as they always had.
“It’s very uncommon that local churches and ministries work alongside one another,” shared Hope Garcia, Back2Back D.R. Co-Director. “It was the biggest adjustment for us when we started the site; we are used to open-handed sharing and standing beside local initiatives to accomplish more. It’s been a blessing to see things shift in that direction finally.”
The D.R. team was approached by a local pastor hoping to jump-start this unified work by holding a conference called Here I am, Send me, and they immediately agreed. They set up a table with information about Back2Back, Trauma Competent Care training, and encouraging others to share, volunteer, and serve in different capacities.
Though this is just a first step, it is a powerful one that allowed Back2Back staff to connect with other ministries, churches, and pastors, creating connections and ultimately lifelines to increase impact across the D.R.
Together, more can be accomplished for vulnerable populations, making space for healing, community, and access.
