Laughter echoed across the playground as children raced from one activity to the next.
Some proudly showed off freshly painted faces, while others bounced as high as they could in the inflatable castle, determined to get a little closer to the sky. Friends cheered each other on during dance competitions, smiled through fashion shows, and eagerly lined up for popcorn, cake, and party treats.
For many of the 350 children gathered at Back2Back Nigeria’s trauma-informed school, Children’s Day wasn’t simply another event on the calendar. It was a day designed and dedicated especially to each of them.
Children from Back2Back’s Hope Program Houses, partner children’s homes, staff families, and the surrounding community came together to celebrate what every childhood deserves: joy, laughter, friendship, and the freedom to simply be a child.
They played games throughout the day, explored virtual reality experiences, swung high on playground equipment, shared a meal, and celebrated with cake. Before leaving for home, they were each given party packs filled with books, school supplies, snacks, and small gifts.
Watching children laugh so freely is a beautiful reminder of why this work matters.
Childhood was never meant to be defined by hardship, uncertainty, or survival. Every child deserves days filled with laughter, wonder, belonging, and the freedom to simply be a child.
Because restoring childhood isn’t only about protecting children from what hurts them, it’s also about making sure they experience everything that helps them flourish.
