A wise woman builds her house, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands. Proverbs 14:1
Camila* is a mother and wife always looking for areas to grow. She and her family have been part of Back2Back Cancun programming for some time now, and she credits the classes and therapies they receive to her improvement as a spouse, mom, and in-law to her family.
“I am learning to build my home with wisdom, patience, and love,” she recently shared. “I trust God is guiding me in every step I take.”
Camila has always had a clear idea of how she wanted to be in her home and toward her family, but sometimes she struggled to see it through in real-time. She believes the staff and time spent at the community center have given her the security and tools to better understand her children and her husband. “I have learned to step back, reflect, and then respond,” she shares.
Her newfound security and an ever-growing understanding of how to be more consistent and present have allowed her to tend to relationships with her in-laws that were once rocky. Previously distant and somewhat superficial, she now feels a genuine connection with them, appreciating and valuing their opinions and presence in her life. As a result, she feels peace and emotional stability.
She is taking extra steps to improve her relationship with her mother-in-law, inviting her over more and working on how she views, thinks, and speaks about her in her absence. “I want my children to form their own opinions of people, not base them on what I think or say,” she shares. “I want my children to offer respect and love to everyone, and I know that has to start through my example.” These efforts have strengthened Camila’s marriage with her husband, allowing them to see each other as partners and consistent support for one another.
“Through this whole process, I’ve learned to trust myself more and trust the decisions I’m making for my family; I know it’s not easy, but with growing patience and alternate approaches to relationships and conversations, I feel calmer and more grateful for what I have,” Camila shared.
This is the power of families remaining together and having space to learn and grow – solid relationships are built, based on love and understanding. This is hope that doesn’t stand still.
