For vulnerable children around the world, access to education, clean water, a warm bed, nutritious food, and therapeutic services is often lacking. With the generosity of donors like you, Back2Back provides these things for every child. We also know that healing and growth are interdependent, and for every child who lacks physical care, there is often an emotional gap as well.
Back2Back’s sponsorship program connects vulnerable children with caring adults invested in their spiritual, physical, educational, emotional, and social development. Recently, in Nigeria, a young girl experienced the pure joy of meeting her sponsor for the very first time.
This past summer, a mission team from Cincinnati visited Back2Back Nigeria. On their final day, they were introduced to children awaiting sponsorship and encouraged to pray about stepping into their stories. Cassie, a team member, immediately said “yes” to sponsoring two children and asked if she could meet one before leaving.
The next day, the staff introduced Cassie to her sponsor child. At first, the little girl stood still, quietly gazing up at her new friend. When staff reminded her this was her sponsor — someone she could write letters to, pray with, and get to know — her eyes lit up and a wide smile spread across her face.
Later, during a school visit, the little girl searched the crowd until she found Cassie, then walked right over and slipped her small hand into hers. Cassie and her pastor knelt and prayed over her, sealing a bond of love and care that long outlasted the trip itself.
“It was such a special moment to witness,” shared Ene, a Back2Back staff member. “Sponsors may never fully realize how much they mean to the children, or how they are remembered long after they’ve gone back home.”
This is the power of your generosity. You meet children’s physical needs and provide the gift of consistent, loving relationships that remind them they are seen, known, and wholly loved.
