Back2Back’s holistic approach to care is centered around presence and purpose. We teach children and parents alike the importance of playing with purpose, guiding safe adults toward trauma competent caregiving; we intentionally invest in the spiritual, physical, educational, emotional, and social spheres of every child, teen, and adult served. On January 5th of this year, seven families gathered to celebrate with purpose.
Six care coordinators provided an event for families to celebrate all the blessings God gave in 2023, to consider the purposes for each of their families in 2024, and to pray corporately for those plans. “We wanted to have an event like this so families could connect with each other and create a healthy community where support is the focus,” shared Matt Metzger, Back2Back staff.
Each of the families invited are part of the Back2Back Strong Families Program. The chief vision for this program is to keep children where they truly belong – with family. Through classes and gatherings, parents are poured into with encouragement, job training, and access to resources while they also build relationships and community with other families in similar situations. Children receive tutoring help, social/emotional support, and are able to grow alongside their families, working toward unified visions. Staff shared about the program at the event, reminding families the desire is to continue to connect with them. Parents also shared testimonies of what God has done in their lives through Strong Families.
As each family shared their own victories, staff saw how each of the five points of child development are being met. Children are growing in emotional wellness through regular therapy attendance; they are advancing academically through the on-site, trauma-informed school Back2Back runs; they are receiving necessary medical care through medical brigades and doctors visits; and they are growing spiritually as family units through regular church attendance and community engagement.
This event was designated time to celebrate and dream. They shared snacks, gave gratitude to God for His blessings, and prayed together for what the new year will bring. This is the power of intentional community – time is set aside to focus on the good and goals are set in efforts to continue soaking in gratitude. Please join Back2Back in prayer that each family would continue to pursue health together, recognizing the Father for all He makes possible for each of them.
