Edwin’s Sword

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
-Ephesians 6:13-18

Each Saturday, Back2Back Cancun staff invite the children in the Tres Reyes community to join them for Bible classes. This particular Saturday, the lesson was about the armor of God.

Edwin loves coming to class. He’s curious, inquisitive and excited to learn about God. And for a playful four-year-old boy, this lesson was right up his alley. As they discussed what it looked like to put on the armor and wield this sword, Edwin’s eyes lit up and a big grin spread across his sweet face. Determined, Edwin asked if he could go get something at home. Staff tried to encourage him to stay and participate in the activities, but he was insistent. He grabbed his reluctant mom’s hand and dragged her out the door, promising he’d return quickly.

Edwin returned with a toy sword held high over his head as he ran back into the classroom.

“So, it’s like this?!” he asked his teachers, “God’s word, the Bible, it’s like a sword?”

Edwin is learning what God’s Word is about. As he makes connections in his life, the truth of who God is and what He says are taking root in his heart. Thank you for your generosity. Your contributions provide resources for teachers, curriculum and activities so the children can learn to engage with a God who is crazy in love with them. Please pray for children like Edwin to experience more of God’s goodness and grace as they grow in dependence on Him each day.
