The Best Day I Ever Had

Kendia leads with wisdom and kindness, as she encourages her peers at Harvest Care Children’s Home in Haiti. Though only eight years old, she dreams of becoming a nurse. Over her favorite meal of mango, rice, and creole chicken, she shares her day’s adventures with the other children and adults who care for her. If you visit her children’s home, you will see Kendia studying math and practicing math facts – one of her favorites!

Socially, Kendia is outgoing and spunky. The church children’s choir, Choir of Angels, gives her an outlet for her love of singing. Through playing games, dancing, singing and reading with the director of the children’s home, Kendia is free to be a child learning she can rely on God and caring adults for help and provision.

One of Kendia’s hopes was to learn to swim. Grand Canyon University came and built an above-ground swimming pool for the home. Opening day was celebrated with games, snacks, and a pool party. Kendia watched the events unfold, clutching her hands, eyeing the cool, blue water. Finally, it was time to swim! Kendia stood with her toes peering over the edge of the pool waiting to take her first leap. With a huge splash, her joyous smile could not be contained. As the day ended and Kendia returned to her home with her cozy, pool towel wrapped around her body, she confided, “This was the best day I have ever had.”

Kendia peered over the edge of the pool waiting to take her first leap.

We are trusting Jesus for more days of answered prayer and first experiences. We invite you to sit on the pool’s edge with us, as we dangle our toes in the water, watching children splash in God’s refreshing waters.
