Campus Facilities Captain

Position Title: Campus Facilities Captain
Location: Hyderabad, India
Status: Full-Time
Reports to: General Manager
Works closely with: India Hope Campus Staff
Position summary: Supports site programs by meeting maintenance, building and landscaping needs for Back2Back Ministries.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Inspect all ministry site areas including children’s homes, office spaces, school, and grounds, to identify problem areas, mechanical failure, breakdowns, and maintenance needs
  • Repair and/or oversee repair of plumbing, electrical and safety systems as required — and according to personal ability
  • Keep appliances, machines, and tools in peak operating condition
  • Organize and maintain an inventory of tools, hardware, plumbing, and electrical supplies
  • Perform maintenance and light repairs 
  • Perform and/or oversee routine landscaping of the campus grounds 
  • Ensure campus facilities are well maintained and presentable for visitors
  • Paint and fill gaps or crevices in masonry walls 
  • Undertake duties as assigned or emergency tasks
  • Identify and report the need for major repairs 
  • Develop and maintain a team of ministry partners that fully fund the position 
  • Other duties as assigned

Required education and experience:

  • Plumbing and electrical training/certification or professional experience with same
  • Documented/proven experience as a handyman
  • Experience with carpentry, hardware, tools, plumbing, and electrical equipment 
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Required skills and abilities:

  • Operate with basic competency in Microsoft Office and Google applications
  • Basic skills and knowledge of construction and how things work (and within developing countries)
  • Can lead workers effectively as well as interns in projects
  • Run errands, buy materials, and withdraw money/cash checks at the bank
  • A keen eye for detail and quality
  • Basic math skills
  • Good communication ability 
  • Sincere interest in, and commitment to learning elements of the local language (Telugu) 
  • Well-organized and apt in problem-solving
  • Read and interpret blueprints and architectural drawings
  • Create basic plans for electrical and plumbing systems
  • Teachable
  • Cultural knowledge and sensitivity 
  • Strong time management skills– stays on schedule and on task
  • Capacity to accomplish the work creatively, with limited resources, and safely
  • Adaptability to different circumstances and working conditions
  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making skills
