Sarah Ellis

Haiti has been part of Sarah’s story since she was 16 and moved there from Pennsylvania with her parents and siblings to serve with Christian Veterinary Missions. She met her future husband Matt there when he moved from Washington state to Haiti to intern with a ministry for a year. Sarah and Matt got married in 2004, moved around the US and had 4 children: Ivy, Eagan, Susanna and Calum. They talked about returning to Haiti someday, maybe once the kids were grown.

‘Someday’ came sooner than expected when Matt was introduced to Back2Back through a mission trip to Monterrey, Mexico, in 2016. The Ellises were invited to consider serving with Back2Back in Haiti, and in 2017, with 12 suitcases, stroller, and car seat in tow, moved to Port-au-Prince. Sarah and Matt and their family served on site in Haiti for three years.

After returning to Ohio, Sarah has been blessed to continue to work alongside the incredible staff team in Haiti in her role as a Site Coach with the Child and Family Development Team in the US Office. This role is a dream come true – combining her background in social work, dedication to trauma-informed care, and passion for vulnerable children and families to know Jesus and be empowered to live out God’s designs for their lives.
