• Santiago, Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, is the second most populous country in the Caribbean. Urban areas, largely known for their tourist attractions and stunning beaches, leave more rural areas of the country overlooked and left impoverished. With a population of approximately 10,000,000, one-third of its people live on less than $1.25 a day.

As one of Back2Back’s newest sites, the vision is to support and equip local ministries with the tools needed to effectively work with orphaned and vulnerable children. Currently, the DR site is in a relationship building and training stage; staff are connecting with local ministries and offering Trauma Competent Care trainings and follow-up coaching with directors and personnel. Staff are also pursuing key ministry relationships which may lead to more formal partnerships in the future.
