• Mazatlán, Mexico

Mazatlán, situated on the Mexican Pacific shoreline, is known as “The Pearl of the Pacific.” Mazatlán is a popular tourist destination, but in stark contrast to its beautiful beaches and resorts, it also has a high rate of poverty and unemployment. The national minimum wage is less than $5 a day, with many earning even less than this. It is difficult to break the cycle of poverty since public education ends after the 9th grade.

In Mazatlán, Back2Back serves local children’s homes, owns and operates a home for children and young adults with special needs, and runs a trauma-informed school. Back2Back’s site in Mazatlán is unique in that there is also a Center for Holistic Child Development that is uniquely equipped with therapies and programming to serve children and young adults from traumatic backgrounds, and people special needs.
