Warm air blew through the palapa as groups of women and girls gathered in different areas. The space around them was filled with their laughter and conversation as moms and daughters came together for a connection event hosted by staff and a visiting team.
Several stations were set up beneath the palapa and they were encouraged to stop at whichever ones they wanted, at their leisure. There was a makeup and hair station, a space to paint their nails, board games, glitter tattoos, and a massage station, where a team member, also a masseuse, taught techniques and used safe touch with every mother and daughter.
“It was heartwarming to see the moms and daughters paint their nails the same colors or get matching tattoos,” shared Amy Perez, Back2Back staff. “And watching everyone use safe touch and ask permission was encouraging as they interacted with one another.”
Many of the mothers served through the Strong Families Program in Cancun never had days like this with their own mothers, and it is the staff team’s desire to create new traditions and memories alongside every family member in unique ways. The day was concluded with sweet treats, hot chocolate, and worship.
