Hyderabad is the capital of the Indian state, Andhra Pradesh, and is located in southern India. The city has a population of 10 million residents, making it the fourth most populous city in the country. The most prominent religion in Hyderabad is Hinduism, followed by Islam, with Christianity making up a small minority. Around two million people in Hyderabad live in slums, where 73% live below the poverty line working as day laborers, earning less than $2 per day. 40% of children under age three suffer from malnutrition.
Back2Back began working in India in 2008. Partnerships with children’s hostels and slum-area ministries allow Back2Back to help provide deeper, more holistic care for orphaned and vulnerable children. Back2Back also owns and operates a campus in a rural community outside Hyderabad. This campus offers family-style care for 32 children in addition to a primary school and a training facility. Additionally, Back2Back’s Hope Education Program provides teens with the opportunity for higher education and life-skills training.
