Singing Because She is Free

It’s a sunny day in Haiti. As Dan Ravenhorst, Back2Back Haiti staff, walks towards Lighthouse Children’s Home, he can hear a clear, confident voice pierce the air. He smiles to himself. He may not understand every world to this song, but he recognizes the voice who is sharing it with the neighboring homes.

Anne Marie may only be 14, but she knows how to use her voice for the Lord.

“Anne Marie has a huge passion for singing,” explains Dan. “God has blessed her tremendously and she feels called to share her gift for Him.”

At ten-years old, Anne Marie began to develop a passion for singing and truly began to invest time in learning songs and practicing. Since then, she has begun to see her passion for song as a gift the Lord has blessed her with to glorify Him. She participates in the choir at her church in Haiti and regularly participates in singing competitions at church and school.

When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, Anne-Marie answers confidently, “a Gospel music star.”

Recently baptized, Anne Marie is already pursuing ways to follow in obedience what God has laid before her.

“She is aware her gifting can reach people, can grow God’s Kingdom, and she feels called to share the Gospel through songs,” says Dan.

Recently, Dan asked Anne Marie how she felt about using her voice to share Truth with others and she quoted Jeremiah 29:11: ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’

“She is spiritually mature and feels deeply called by the Lord in this way,” says Dan. “It’s a beautiful thing to see a young woman so focused on her future and what the Lord has for her.”

Back2Back Ministries and Jesus in Haiti are working together to find a music teacher to work with Anne-Marie as she pursues this passion and her call. And she is serious about practicing.

“Anne Marie’s voice can often be heard ringing through the home,” says Dan.

Anne Marie chose freedom when she chose to live her life for Jesus and now she plans to raise her voice in order to share that freedom with others.
