Shashikala’s 11th birthday was quickly approaching, a day she had been anticipating for months. Little did she know, her peers at Back2Back’s Suzuki Samuel Campus were secretly planning and saving their allowance to surprise her on her special day.
Each week, the children receive fifteen cents as an allowance. “The children had purchased gifts for Shashikala using their own allowance without any guidance from me or other staff,” shared Adam Petticrew, Back2Back India staff member.
The children purchased beautiful artwork for Shashikala to hang by her bed and proudly presented them to her in beautiful wrapping paper. It served as a sweet reminder of the ways in which the children are growing socially through the depth of their friendships. Shashikala was touched by the outpouring of love she received on her birthday.
“It was a really cool moment that I’m sure encouraged Shashikala and definitely encouraged me,” said Adam Petticrew.
